چکیده

“Jack Edmonds has been one of the creators of the field of combinatorial optimization and polyhedral combinatorics. His 1965 paper ‘Paths, Trees, and Flowers’ [1] was one of the first papers to suggest the possibility of establishing a mathematical theory of efficient combinatorial algorithms . . . ” [from the award citation of the 1985 John von Neumann Theory Prize, awarded annually since 1975 by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences]. In 1962, the Chinese mathematician Mei-Ko Kwan proposed a method that could be used to minimize the lengths of routes walked by mail carriers. Much earlier, in 1736, the eminent Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler, who had elevated calculus to unprecedented heights, had investigated whether there existed a walk across all seven bridges that connected two islands in the river Pregel with the rest of the city of Königsberg on the adjacent shores, a walk that would cross each bridge exactly once.

Snakes and Caterpillars in Graceful Graphs

Graceful labelings use a prominent place among difference vertex labelings. In this work we present new families of graceful graphs all of them obtained applying a general substitution result. This substitution is applied here to replace some paths with some trees with a more complex structures. Two caterpillars with the same size are said to be textit{analogous} if thelarger stable sets, in bo...

Asymptotic behaviour of associated primes of monomial ideals with combinatorial applications

Let  $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $I$ be an ideal of $R$. We say that $I$ satisfies the persistence property if  $mathrm{Ass}_R(R/I^k)subseteq mathrm{Ass}_R(R/I^{k+1})$ for all positive integers $kgeq 1$, which $mathrm{Ass}_R(R/I)$ denotes the set of associated prime ideals of $I$. In this paper, we introduce a class of square-free monomial ideals in the polynomial ring  $R=K[x_1,ld...

Inflorescence features of a new exceptional monoecious Pistacia atlantica Desf. (Anacardiaceae) population in the barbaros plain of İzmir/Turkey

Unusual gender types in some Pistacia species are considered as useful material for pistachio breeding. In this report, the inflorescence characteristics of an exceptional monoecious Pistacia atlantica Desf. tree population were presented. The gender distribution was highly complex and variable among the trees. Some of the branches bore only female or male inflorescences. Also, some branches bo...

Morphological variation in the flowers of Jacaratia mexicana A. DC. (Caricaceae), a subdioecious tree.

The Caricaceae is a small family of tropical trees and herbs in which most species are dioecious. In the present study, we extend our previous work on dioecy in the Caricaceae, characterising the morphological variation in sexual expression in flowers of the dioecious tree Jacaratia mexicana. We found that, in J. mexicana, female plants produce only pistillate flowers, while male plants are sex...

The Power of Plasticity in Polyploid Persimmon.

Most plants are hermaphrodites, producing perfect flowers with both male and female functions. In roughly 6%of plants, however, male (usually XY) plants produce only male flowers and female (XX) plants produce only female flowers. Thesedioecious plants cannot self-pollinate, ensuring genetic diversity and facilitating the breeding process. In the dioecious diploid persimmon (Diospyros lotus), s...
